Wrongchilde Does Things Right

Right now, you may not be familiar with the artist "Wrongchilde," but really, you probably know him more than you think you do. Wrongchilde is the solo project of Kill Hannah's Mat Devine, and his upcoming album, "Gold Blooded" features such collaborations with White Sea's Morgan Kibby, My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way and Versa's Sierra Kusterbeck.

Gold Blooded is set for release on August 19 and will be self-released by Wrongchild aka Matt Devine. What's special about this self-release is that it's entirely funded by fans and supporters on Pledge Music. On PledgeMusic.com, artists offer packages for sale, such as merch bundles, hand-written lyric sheets, signed items, phone calls from themselves, and more so they can make their financial goal to put out the new music. It's the indie way of doing things; no "big man above" to tell the artist what to do for their music because it's all direct artist to fan.

The Rock Spot had the opportunity to check out the new music of Mat Devine.

The sound of Wrongchilde is much more alternative, and less-rock sounding than Devine's previous work in Kill Hannah. Although it still does maintain similar deep, emotional lyrics in every song. With the sounds of synthesizers and catchy melodies, I'd say that the entirety of Gold Blooded is strong and easy to enjoy; it's effortlessly and seamlessly done.

The most notable tracks on the album in my opinion are: Slow, Falling In Love Will Kill You (Ft. Gerard Way),  Dance to Your Heartbeat (Ft. Sierra Kusterbeck), and of course the title track, Gold Blooded. Why? They contain the most beautiful lyrics on the entire album (such as, "When I'm caught in your eyes it's like a time lapse/ all the lashes are just like venus fly traps/ I'm in love with you"), they are the catchiest, and in the collaborations, the voices of Way and Kusterbeck just blend so perfectly with Devine's. In Dance to Your Heartbeat, the addition of a soft female voice works quite well, especially because it's a love song; it's like a modern version of Elton John and Kiki Dee (ok, not quite, but it should also totally be a famous vocal pairing!).

All in all, I'd give this album 4.5 stars out of five. Looking forward to when it comes out!
